Miss Independence

You find gloves, you wear them. . .

You find bread, you eat it
You find sunglasses, you pose for a picture.

She's pretty much got life all figured out. Is this really the little baby of just a few months ago? Definitely not. She is rapidly trading her dependence for independence, and I believe we have entered an entirely new chapter of our relationship that includes demands, compromises, and more entertainment than ever. The other day Anna was eating her absolute favorite lunch without fail, Macaroni and Cheese, when her eyes caught sight of a loaf of frozen bread thawing on the cupboard. It turns out THAT is what she actually wanted to eat for lunch. I explained that we couldn't eat it yet--it was cold and yucky--I believe those were my words. Well, she seemed to take it pretty well and she finished her lunch. After I got her down from her highchair, I went to fold the laundry down the hall and left her playing in the living room. When I came back in a few minutes later after I realized that everything was a little too quiet, I found Anna in the middle of the living room biting holes in each piece of frozen bread, one by one, and then laying them on the floor next to her. I don't know how she reached the bread on the cupboard and I don't know how she got the twisty-tie off of the bag. All I know is that there are many, many days when I am outsmarted by my one year old and it makes me wonder what the future holds. I know there are probably many mothers out there who would be happy to scare me with the details.
